Benjamin Moore marked the 100th anniversary of its manufacturing plant in Newark on Friday, December 12th, 2025. The milestone was acknowledged by Newark City Council Member for Newark’s East Ward, Michael Silva – with Silva presenting Benjamin Moore CEO Dan Calkins and members of the Benjamin Moore site team, with a declaration cementing the milestone in Newark history.

The Benjamin Moore facility on Lister Avenue opened its doors in 1925 and has remained a cornerstone of the company’s operations ever since, producing approximately 1.5 million gallons of colorant—the key ingredient that gives Benjamin Moore paints their signature richness and depth—each year.

Over the past century, this site has stood as a symbol of resilience and community. It has withstood historic moments—from reallocation of funding to support in the aftermath of 9/11, to natural disasters such as Superstorm Sandy, to adapting operations during the COVID-19 pandemic to produce critical hand sanitizer for frontline use. Through it all, Benjamin Moore’s dedication to this site and to the City of Newark has never wavered.

The plant has grown in both scale and impact to the business, as well as in employment opportunity and philanthropy. Today, nearly 80 employees work in the Newark facility—many of whom are long-tenured, multi-generational team members who represent the strength and spirit of this City. Beyond its manufacturing contributions, Benjamin Moore and its employees are deeply involved in supporting local causes and organizations, including the Boys & Girls Club of Newark, Planned Parenthood of Metropolitan New Jersey, Newark Public Radio, YouthBuild USA, and the Community FoodBank of New Jersey. The company also donates hundreds of gallons of paint and countless volunteer hours to transform the spaces people live and work throughout the region.
