The World Coatings Council emphasizes the unacceptable risks of lead exposure and the need for action.

The World Coatings Council (WCC) supports the 13th annual International Lead Poisoning Prevention Week of Action, Oct. 19-25, 2025.
During the campaign week, the Global Alliance to Eliminate Lead Paint (Lead Paint Alliance or LPA) reminds governments, civil society organizations, health partners, industry and others of the unacceptable risks of lead exposure and the need for action.
The campaign builds on the success of banning the use of lead in petrol and the progress achieved by many countries in establishing laws that limit the use of lead in paint, particularly those paints to which children are exposed in their homes, schools and playgrounds.
The World Coatings Council’s (WCC) membership is comprised of trade associations from around the globe representing the paint, coatings and printing ink industries. WCC member associations have a long
history of addressing the health, safety and environmental impacts associated with the manufacture and use of paints and printing inks, including the recognition, evaluation, and control of hazards arising from the use of lead in paint.
WCC participated in the UN General Assembly’s ministerial breakfast, “Toward a Lead-Free Future: Mobilizing to End Childhood Lead Exposure.” In addition, WCC and its members participate in the Lead in Paint Community of Practice to continue to share knowledge and raise awareness of this issue.
As a longtime partner of the Lead Paint Alliance, WCC applauds the hard work of fellow partners to engage governments and implement effective and enforceable legislation and regulation, and looks forward to continued collaboration with the World Health Organization, UNICEF and others on efforts to ensure a lead-free environment in countries not currently restricting lead use.
WCC is committed to supporting industry outreach and education efforts in key regions. To this end, WCC supports the UN’s LPA “Model Law;” the toolkit for establishing laws to eliminate lead in paint, second edition; and the Questions and Answers about Lead Paint and Lead Paint Laws as useful starting points for both government and industry to collaborate on developing restrictions that ensure widespread and verifiable compliance.
